Ingredients
2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup (115g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
3/4 cup (180ml) heavy cream
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup (130g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tbsp extra cream (for brushing)
Optional: coarse sugar for topping
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3: Cut in the Butter
Add the cold butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4: Add Wet Ingredients
Whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla. Pour into the flour mixture and stir gently until almost combined.
Step 5: Fold in Chocolate Chips
Add the chocolate chips and mix just until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.
Step 6: Shape the Dough
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into 8 wedges.
Step 7: Bake
Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden.
Step 8: Cool & Enjoy
Let the scones cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with butter, jam, or a hot cup of coffee.
